Headlining the top deck is Mantra whose instant classic “Got me wrong” has become part of everyone’s play list over the last few months. Mantra will be rocking the boat with his crew Bam Bam and DJ Wasabi. We also have DJ/Producer extraordinaire Nick Thayer headlining the lower deck. He has worked with some legendary international artists such as A Skillz and DJ Yoda on seminal labels like Bomb Strikes, Insane Bangers, Southern Fried and Hot Cakes. We think Nick adds a nice twist to the party. We’re also super excited to have The Psyde Projects on board who are fresh from supporting Pete Rock! MC’s D-Fro, ILResponce and their DJ Mr. Moonshine are purveyors of that super funky golden era style hip hop. Their album “Welcome to Boomtown” is a must, if you love that old school party style hip hop.

Then there’s the super fresh DJ line-up… DJ Perplex, two-time Redbull Threestyle Australian Champion and three-time Australian DMC champion. A true turntable technician and chief party rocker. It doesn’t stop there, DJ Flagrant who recently won the Victorian heat of the Redbull Threestyle comp is on hand to make the party bounce too. Did we mention sneaker freaker and superstar ‘she-jay’ M.A.F.I.A will also be dropping some serious heat? DJ Prequel in the house! Having supported hip hop legends such as MF Doom, De La Soul, Odd Future and Grand Wizard Theodore you know Prequel will have the dancefloor heaving. Zack Rampage is also on deck, you may have heard him spinning old school hip hop across the airwaves on PBS every Friday afternoon. Finally we have Claymore 74 who has been killing it, at the Fabulous Funk parties with The Soul City Sound System. Fat beats and a killer line-up on a boat? Hell yeah!

After Party: SWEAT at The George in St. Kilda

Splendour in the Grass promoter Jessica Ducrou has revealed that the move from Woodfordia to Belongil Field rules out the possibility of acts as big as Kanye or Coldplay headlining the festival in 2012.

In an interview with Noise11, Ducrou has explained that “moving from Woodford to Belongil Field the venue is smaller. 17,500 is what we run at there. [The capacity at Woodfordia was 32000.] That obviously effects how much you can spend on your talent. No, we won’t be having acts like Kanye and Coldplay who are some of the biggest acts in the world. We have some great bands people will be very happy with”.

She refused to comment on the lineup further, simply restating the news that Radiohead and the Stone Roses will not be part of the 2012 festival. However she did offer an interesting suggestion for the announcement of the lineup – “We thought maybe we could have a new strategy and every week release who is not playing. Then by process of elimination people would work it out by the time we normally announce”.

We’re already all but ruled out the likes of Hot Chip, Little Dragon, La Roux, Underworld and Damon Albarn who have shows in the UK to attend to on the same weekend as Splendour.

As for the Splendour lineup wishlist Ducrou says “we have a hit list of a dozen since we started. Some were The Strokes, Flaming Lips and Supergrass and we got them. Still on our list Radiohead and The Arcade Fire we would kill for but they don’t tour a lot. And when they decide they want to come but its not when our festival is on we don’t get them”.

The 2012 lineup be announced in late April.

He plays an Australian inspired style of Nu-Folk Pop that couples meaningful lyrics with smooth, ethereal melodies; his storyteller style of writing shows maturity well beyond his years. His second release “Wishing Wells” was produced and recorded in a dim-lit lounge room and unveiled beneath fairy lights to a pretty crowd, in his hometown of Adelaide.

Kaurna’s upcoming releases were written in Berlin & on the road, being inspired by his thoughts & the thoughts and stories of those throughout his journey.(Available June 2012). With a foot tap beat, edgy harmonica and a story to tell, his live performance will capture, inspire and drive you home with a grin.

Speaking to the Doctor on triple j, Gonzalez confirmed that the nang loving, fire starting punks were booted off the tour following their support set at the Prince Bandroom in Melbourne yet he offered a different take on the story to the one Teenage Mothers told last week.

“It’s hard for me to talk about it,” Gonzalez said of the incident. “I didn’t like the way they behaved to my audience, offering whippets on stage and almost setting the stage on fire. You don’t do that when you open for bands. I have tones of respect for all the bands I was opening for. I just wish the band that opens for me have the same amount of respect.”

Gonzalez stressed that he’s “not against punk or rock’n’roll” but said that Teenage Mothers “just crossed the line on this gig. I’m not the only one who makes the decision. My crew was against having them for the next gig. It’s just not professional… This is my career that we’re talking about, and I want to make sure things are under control – and it wasn’t.”
