It’s the time of the year once again, after the initial establishment of Big Day Out in 1992, the eminent festival is back and booming for it’s 20th anniversary. Kicking off in a few days with a stellar bill including Soundgarden, Nero, Hilltop Hoods, Foster The People and a stack of others, the festival also introduces a few debut acts to the stage (literally)… Let’s meet them shall we…
Das Racist
Dap, Heems and Kool A.D make up New York rap outfit Das Racist. They’ve released 3 records in 2 years – Sit Down, Man, Shut Up, Dude and Relax. Singles include ‘hahahaha jk?’, ‘Combination Pizza Hut & Taco Bell’ and ‘Michael Jackson’. They try not to take themselves too seriously. However, their latest track ‘All Tan Everything’ features Jay Z is a serious track! Check it out!
Sandro Dias
Considered one of the world’s best vert skaters, Sandro Dias will be making his first visit to the BDO courtesy of close mate Tony Hawk and his Vert Jam Challenge. One of the only people in the world to pull off a 900; Dias will be dropping in at all shows around sunset.
Cage The Elephant
Already with a huge following in the States, Cage The Elephant head to the country off the back of their second album Thank You, Happy Birthday. Rolling Stone named them the Best New Artist in 2011 and they’re mates with Dave Grohl. You can see what all the fuss is about at each leg of the BDO this summer.
Royksopp
Norwegian electronic duo Royksopp have been making music since 1998 but this Big Day Out tour marks the first time they’ve ever been to Australia. BDO organisers say we should expect the unexpected when Svein Berge and Torbjorn Brundtland light up the Boiler Room but with 4 albums worth of material to share, BDO punters should at least be prepared for something special.
